There’s a lot to be said about finding the perfect location, packing your favorite lunchtime provisions, and laying down a throw blanket for a picnic in the park. At first glance, planning such an occasion is as easy as pie. After all, what more do you need than food, beverages, and maybe a few friends (or a partner)? When traveling, it’s easy just to find the nearest green space or stop by a sandwich shop without giving it a second thought. However, the perfect picnic takes some subtle planning that requires some creativity, a bit of research, and a bit of organization. That is, if you are looking to complement an already excellent Oregon beach vacation. At Gearhart by the Sea, not only will you be within a short commute to some remarkable picnic venues, you’ll have the satisfaction of staying at one of the best Oregon Coast vacation rentals.
Picnics in the Park: A Quintessential Oregon Coast Experience
With it’s ideal proximity to some of the best beaches in the state, if not the entire West Coast, Gearhart by the Sea provides seemingly unfettered access to several gorgeous off-site locations. Supported by an expansive selection of Oregon Coast vacation rentals, it’s no surprise that we’ve become recognized as a premier getaway destination for those seeking a respite from the hustle and bustle of life. As much as we want you to enjoy our on-site facilities, we encourage our guests to explore the natural and scenic beauty that exemplifies our slice of paradise. Without further ado, here are our favorite places to visit for a picnic in the park.
Broadway Park
Nestled on Gearhart’s east side along the Neawanna River, Broadway Park provides a quaint alternative to a beachside picnic. Seaside’s oldest community park is a spectacular place to bring kids. Besides its covered picnic shelter and river access via the canoe and kayak launch, there is also a skate park, sports fields, basketball court, and youth center.
Del Rey Beach State Recreation Site
Just two miles north of Gearhart, OR, lies one of the area’s most iconic settings. Del Rey Beach State Recreation Site is a coastal section that should definitely be strolled. This picturesque locale provides patrons with some of the best ocean scenery and wildlife viewing opportunities near Seaside. With a slew of recreational options and one of the best sunsets you’ll ever see, we’re not surprised that Del Rey has become such a coveted beach destination.
Ecola State Park
No trip to the Oregon Coast would feel right without a trip to Ecola State Park. Stretching along nine miles of the Pacific Ocean beachfront and ensconced on Tillamook Head, Ecola State Park offers a dynamic array of outdoor recreation opportunities. A series of paved pathways provide patrons with gorgeous vistas and panoramic views of the Tillamook Rock Lighthouse as it rests in solitude off the coast. Amongst the rocky shores and greenspace are several picnic areas and tables that allow you to gaze into the sea while enjoying your lunch.
